Objective of the EN ISO 20471 standard :
The ISO 20471 standard aims to protect people working on the roads by making them visible both day and night, particularly during construction sites or temporary dangerous situations.
Composition of clothing :
The clothing compliant with EN 20471 are composed of:
Fluorescent fabrics to ensure daytime visibility.
Retro-reflective strips to guarantee visibility at night in the light of headlights.
Classification of high visibility protective clothing :
The standard divides clothing into three classes, with visibility increasing as the class increases.
The class of a garment is determined by two main criteria:
The surface of the fluorescent fabric (yellow, orange or red).
The surface of retro-reflective strips or reflective materials.
In summary, the ISO 20471 standard ensures the visibility and safety of workers on the roads by specifying requirements for the materials and classification of work clothing for optimal visibility day and night.
