STANDARD EN 13034
Protective clothing – Against liquid chemicals type 6 and type PB (6)
EN 13034 type 6/PB[6] establishes requirements for protective clothing against liquid chemicals, with performance levels defined to ensure adequate protection in different industrial environments.
Good to READ
Standard EN 13034 type 6/PB[6] :
This standard specifies requirements for limited-use or reusable chemical protective clothing providing limited protection against liquid chemicals.
Category and objective :
Clothing complying with this standard is Category 3 and designed to protect against light sprays, liquid aerosols, light splashes where a total permeation barrier is not required.
Types of protection :
The standard covers two types of clothing:
Type 6: protection of the trunk and limbs (suit or two-piece outfit).
Type PB[6]: protection of specific parts of the body (jacket, apron, sleeves) offering similar performance.
Performance reading :
Liquid repellency is obtained by a carbon fluorine finish, which must be maintained with each wash.
The tests cover the base material and the finished garment to assess the performance of seams, joins and assemblies.
Performance levels are assessed for:
The repulsion of liquids (repulsion index).
Resistance to penetration by liquids (penetration index).
Mechanical resistance (abrasion, tearing, perforation and traction).
Performance indices :
For liquid repellency, levels range from 1 to 3, with increasing efficiency thresholds (80%, 90%, 95%).
For penetration resistance, levels range from 1 to 3, with decreasing penetration thresholds (10%, 5%, 1%).
Professions concerned :
Jobs exposed to chemical risks only (chemical industry, pharmaceuticals, laboratories, etc.).
Jobs exposed to chemical risks combined with other risks (petrochemicals, industrial cleaning, refineries, etc.).
